DOLE Opposes Additional Holidays This Year Due to “No Work, No Pay” Policy

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) opposed additional holidays for the year 2021 due to the “No Work, No Pay” policy.

The Labor Department has expressed their opposition for additional holidays this year to help with economic recovery. The agency want changes on the holiday for 2021, so Filipino employees could earn enough amount.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said that he is unlikely to recommend November 2, December 24 at 31, 2021 as holidays because it will cut the income of employees working in companies observing “No Work, No Pay” rules.

Bello said that the number of non-working days due to the coronavirus pandemic are more than enough. He is thinking of not declaring those dates as holidays since some employees were assigned in flexible working arrangement.

“Unang-una sa ngayon ang dami na ngang non-working e kasi diba because of the flexible working arrangement meron diyan mga workers hey only work three times a week ganun. Eh lalagyan mo pa ng non-working mo mababawasan din income mo,” Bello said.

The Employers Confederation of the Philippines has expressed their support towards Bello’s statement to help the Filipino employees.

“Sabi hangga’t maari mabawasan yang mga holiday, kaya nung isang taon parang natatandaan ko ang daming araw na walang trabaho nun e, kaya maraming nagrereklamo dahil sa dami ng holidays,” ECOP President Henry Ortiz Ruiz said.
