Cops Arrest Barangay Tanod For Shooting Curfew Violator in Manila
A barangay tanod is facing charges from the Manila Police District after shooting a curfew violator in Barangay 156, Manila.
On Tuesday (August 10, 2021), the Philippine National Police chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said that the Manila Police District is preparing a murder complaint against a barangay tanod who allegedly shot a curfew offender.
The CCTV footage in Barangay 156 caught the barangay tanod named Cesar Panlaqui reprimanding a curfew violator. The offender seems to make a threatening gesture while holding a wooden stick.
The man eventually backed off but the tanod loaded his gun with and immediately shot him. According to the police investigation, the violator was reported to have mental health problems and not mentally fit.
“Ang hinandang kaso ng MPD is murder. Ipapaubaya natin sa piskalya itong disposisyon ng kasong ito,” Eleazar said.
Eleazar said that the authorities have recovered the firearm used by the suspect to kill the victim. The cops also discovered that the gun does not have a serial number and it would subjected to ballistic investigation.
The police official said that it would be the basis in filing cases against the suspect. He also reminded the cops and force multipliers including barangay officials and watchmen to strictly observe maximum tolerance.
The PNP chief also explained that the police officers were not arresting curfew violators instead they were giving them a violation ticket as a warning or charged them to pay the fine for their violations.
“Wala naman tayong inaaresto. Tinitiketan lang natin, binibigyan ng warning o di kaya pinagmumulta, In the case of force multipliers, we really appreciate and recognize them pero s’yempre lahat tayo may pananagutan sa anumang ating mga gagawin,” Eleazar added.
