The suspects have been apprehended and will face criminal proceedings. They were detained about 12:30 a.m., which is after the curfew hours of 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., according to Lucena police head Lt. Col. Romulo Albacea.

The city was still under to a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). Lucena City is one of 21 provinces and cities in the Philippines that have been placed under MECQ, a more stringent form of quarantine, until July 15.

Twelve of these areas were in Mindanao, indicating an increase in COVID-19 instances in the region, as previously documented by the Department of Health (DOH) and Octa Research Group specialists.

The country has been on high alert for the Delta variety, with local governments being asked to maintain strong and consistent border controls to prevent the dangerous variant from entering the country.
