He has his fair share of struggles in this aspect, most especially when he was younger. Richard Gutierrez is his twin brother and he struggled back then as he was labeled already as his “baklang kapatid“. It was hard for him to acknowledge himself during his younger years which ultimately led him to self-destruction, thus, his weight gain. But those remarks from other people made him do better and he is now the person that he is.

And to those mocked him after his confessions, he stressed that he was actually never not out and he never did deny this truth to other people. He said, “I just never shared my story publicly until now.”

And now that he is out, he expressed that his old self would definitely be so proud. He’s still overwhelmed over the huge amount of support to him when he came out. He also shared his realizations that what he did is not too late because the way he lives is not made of “when” but of “why”.

He believes that he has used his platform well if it resulted in more awareness about the community and if it also encouraged other not to live in fear. This is because of his observations. He shared, “To this day members of LGBTQ+ community are discriminated upon in the workplace, being bullied in their communities, or even violently killed simply by being themselves.”

He hopes that his truth will inspire them.
