Raymond Gutierrez shared his struggles before coming out
Richard and Raymond basically started their showbiz career even before they started formal schooling. Known as the cute and adorable Gutierrez twins, they made several TV and movie appearances.
Just recently, in an interview with Mega Entertainment, Raymond had his official coming out. He proudly said that he is a member of the LGBT community. This was lauded by many people but taking this journey was not smooth sailing for him.
Raymond Gutierrez revealed that it was hard for him growing up before the public as he came from a prominent showbiz clan. The hardship he went through also came from the fact that he is the twin brother of Richard Gutierrez, one of the countries matinee idols and famous leading man.
“Growing up, it was hard for me to even acknowledge even who I am. Like, what is this? I had my brother who was so similar to me but so different in so many ways. But he never had to explain his sxuality, so why should I? And that was my thinking growing up. But then entering show business at 19—well, I was a kid—but going back again to show business at 19 to be a TV host, that’s when it really hit me that, ‘Wow, being gay is really not accepted in a lot of these communities,’” he admitted.
The TV host also revealed that he experienced bullying and he would hear people saying, “Ah, ‘ di ba ‘yun ‘yung baklang kapatid ni Richard?” He stressed that the public has already “labeled” him even though he didn’t know yet at that time.
“I was still going through so many emotions at that time that I had no idea. Like, ‘Can I go through this first before you label me anything?’” Raymond said.
Because of this, he hated himself for so long that led him to self-destruction. However, later on, all the mean comments against him because of his preference became his motivation to be better in whatever he does.
