Why did Tito Sotto decide to run for a higher position in the next elections?
Senate President Tito Sotto revealed the reason behind his decision to run for Vice President in the 2022 elections.
From being a comedian and TV host, Sottoâs political career started in 1988 when he ran for Vice Mayor in Quezon City. After his term in 1992, he ran for Senator and won for two terms until 2004.
He was not able to secure a seat for his third term in the election back in 2007 but he ran again in 2010. He is currently the Senate President and is set to run for Vice President next year as the running mate of Senator Ping Lacson.
These past few weeks, rumors about their political tandem were circulating, especially when Tito Sotto was spotted with Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon. The latter had an intriguing caption when he shared their photos together.
On July 20, Sotto revealed his and Lacsonâs political plans on the TeleRadyo program of Doris Bigornia and Alvin Elchico, based on the article in PEP.
âNagdesisyon na kami ni Senator Lacson, pero ang official launching namin, ang plano namin is August 4.Official announcement, at saka parang meron kaming launching event kasama yung mga gustong tumulong sa amin at saka yung mga kumumbinsi sa amin,â the Senate President said.
When asked what pushed him to come up with this decision, he answered, âIt may sound corny to others but one of the reasons is love of country.“
Tito Sotto also said that he has a lot of questions that need answers such as where the Philippines is leading to and what would be the programs that will make the country back on track again.
âSiguro nung nag-consultative meeting naman kami at yung ibang mga kasama namin, hindi lang kasama kundi mga consumer groupâmerong commuter groups, alumni na mga kumakausap sa aminâtingin nila, yung mga programa namin saka yung background, tulad ng pagiging consensus builder ko at pagiging straight fighter ni Senator Lacson, PNP Chief at saka ng pagiging sundalo hanggang siyaây matungtong sa Senado, is a very good combination,â the lawmaker revealed.
After this, they laid out their program and the planning aspect has started. They also came up with the decision to officially announce their plan on the 4th of August.
