Authorities Confirm Local Cases of Delta Variant of COVID-19 in PH

LOCAL CASES OF DELTA VARIANT – The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed local cases of the said variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to place a huge challenge to different countries across the globe. New variants of the said coronavirus disease were detected in different nations and the one first recorded in India, the Delta variant, is now considered as a variant of concern.

The Delta variant caused massive deaths in India. Patients flocked in hospitals and it reached the full capacity. Some patient even had to stay in vehicles due to the full capacity of hospitals.

Countries are currently on tight guards against the entry of Delta variant of COVID-19. Several nations currently implement travel restrictions against India and several other countries that recorded cases of the variant of concern.

The Philippines is one of the nations that implement travel restrictions against India. The PH borders are also temporarily closed against travelers from Pakistan, Oman, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bangladesh.

The Department of Health (DOH) expressed that it is not impossible for the Delta variant to enter the Philippines and what is important is the preparation once it happens. It is currently posing a very challenging situation in Indonesia.

Recently, the DOH confirmed local transmission of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Based on a report in ABS-CBN News, five (5) local cases were detected in Cagayan de Oro, two (2) cases were detected in Manila, two (2) cases were detected in Antique, one (1) case in Misamis Oriental, and one (1) in Pampanga.

According to the report, the said local cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 are included in the current 35 count in the country. Sixteen (16) new cases from people abroad were detected. More updates may be posted soon.
