DOLE to File Charges vs Foreign Recruiter, Boss in KSA Abusing Female OFW

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will fill a case against a foreign recruiter and boss of a female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) abusing her in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said they will sue the foreign recruiter and employer of the Filipina overseas worker who was harassed in Saudi Arabia. According to Bello, he instructed the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Riyadh to contact the Saudi authorities for filing a criminal case.

Michelle was allegedly exploited by the owner of a recruitment agency and molested by one of her employers before returning to the Philippines, according to the investigation. Bello also ordered POLO to revoke Home Comfort’s overseas recruitment agency accreditation.

Bello also urges the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to submit a complaint and suspend the local firm SAMA International Recruitment Agency so that OFWs are not victimized. Michelle’s complaints and grievances in Saudi Arabia were allegedly neglected by SAMA, according to the DOLE.

According to the Department of Labor, Michelle was given legal advice by the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) when she arrived in the country. Michelle was allegedly subjected to forensic examinations by the PAO, which confirmed that she was exploited and assaulted.
