SINOVAC & MODERNA – According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Sinovac and Moderna are both not ready to be used on individuals below 18 years old.

According to Inquirer, FDA Chief Eric Domingo said:

Tinanong na rin po namin yung ibang mga vaccines katulad nga po ng Sinovac at Moderna kung sila ay mageexpand din kasama po yung mga bata

Currently, the FDA said that they are still waiting for the approval from both companies if they would extend their emergency use authorization to include those below 18. But, the Domingo stated that both companies said they are still not ready to apply.

I think they’re compiling pa po yung data from their clinical trials involving children below 18 years old“, he added. As such, only those above 18 would be allowed to get inoculated with Sinovac and Moderna vaccines.

However, in China, Sinovac has been approved to be used in children as early as 3-years-old to 17-years-old. Similarly, Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine reported that their product was safe and effective on children from 12 to 17-years-old.

Still, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine have been approved on use for children aged 12 to 15. Meanwhile in the Philippines, the government stated that they plan to inoculate those in the pediatric sector on September or October.
