Private Schools May Now Start Classes for S.Y. 2021-2022, DepEd Says

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that private schools may start their classes for school year 2021-2022.

On Friday (June 25, 2021), the Education Department said that DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones has signed an advisory dated June 23 announcing that private and non-DepEd public schools may begin the resumption of classes.

DepEd clarified that face-to-face classes are still prohibited and only distance learning system is allowed for SY 2021-2022. The measure aims to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country.

“The Department of Education announces that pending the approval of the new general school opening and school calendar, private schools and non-DepEd public schools may already start their classes for SY 2021-2022, provided that there are no face-to-face classes, and that the school will be strictly implementing only distance learning modalities,” DepEd said.

Previously, the agency said that they are planning to set the class opening on August 23, September 6, or September 13, 2021 but the final school calendar still depends on the decision of President Duterte.

Meanwhile, most Filipino students were hoping and praying that everything would return to normal so schools could return to regular classes.
