DOJ – The Department of Justice reacted to the warning of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte that those who will refuse the COVID-19 vaccine will be arrested.

The Philippines is currently pushing for a population protection through vaccinating a huge part of the populace. Many healthcare workers, the frontliners in the fight against the pandemic, have already been vaccinated. A lot of doctors, nurses, and medical staff are already fully-vaccinated.

Some senior citizens and individuals with co-morbidities have also received their shots of COVID-19 vaccines. Several brands arrived in the country including Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V.

This month, the national government targeted the vaccination of the essential workers and the poor Filipinos to start. Some economic workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) have already received their 1st dose of the vaccine.

In his latest national address, Pres. Duterte warned the Filipinos that those who will refuse the COVID-19 vaccine will be arrested. The said statement took the social media platforms by storm and many people are against it.

Recently, the Department of Justice reacted to the warning of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte that those who will refuse the COVID-19 vaccine will be arrested. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOJ Secretary Menardo Guevarra stressed his belief that using strong words was just the President’s way of convincing the people to get vaccinated but he knows that refusing the vaccine is a “legal choice”.

“There is no law as yet that compels vaccination against COVID-19, much less criminalizes it, as presently available vaccines are still in their trial phases,” the DOJ Secretary said.

Many local government officials do not agree with the warning of the President. Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro expressed that it is not right.
