Dina Bonnevie Opens Up About Trauma After Witnessing Husband’s Death

Dina Bonnevie is still traumatized.

Over a year since her husband died, veteran actress Dina Bonnevie opened up about the trauma after witnessing his death.

Dina Bonnevie’s husband, Deogracias Victor “DV” Savellano, died at the age of 65 early last year. It was her greatest heartbreak. They have been together for decades, and losing him got her navigating life again, but alone.

Savellano died due to an abdominal aneurysm, and his death popped the bubble of her dream to grow old with him. Months after his death, she shared that she is now in a better place in her grieving process. While she struggled deeply in the early days and months, she is gradually healing, though still coping with the loss.

However, over a year after his death, the trauma remained in her after she witnessed his death.

According to her, she had a hard time shooting an ICU scene with her on-screen son, Jameson Blake, for the Prime Original series “Love is Never Gone.” She had flashbacks because she saw him die.

“Okay ako in the beginning. Pero gitna nanginig ako. Sabi ko ‘Direk, I am having flashbacks.’ Nanginig ako because I saw my husband die,” she revealed, and added, “I saw him flatline four times, sa fifth hindi na siya nag-survive. It is so daunting, talagang traumatic to ever witness a spouse’s death. I don’t want it to ever happen to anyone.”

She said a part of her died with him, calling it the worst year of her life. Though she still misses him deeply, she is now in a better place. Looking back, while everything happened suddenly, there were premonitions.

“When he went past me, parang pixelated dating niya sa mata ko. Bakit ganon nakita ko kay DV, parang dumaan tapos may naiwang shadow. Inisip ko lenses ko ba… pero ang lakas ng feeling ko baka this is DV’s last Christmas. Di ko alam bat ko naisip yun. But it crossed my mind. Yakap siya ng yakap sakin,” she said.
