Operatives Destroyed P75M Worth of Smuggled Cigarettes Arrived in Misamis Oriental

The operatives of Bureau of Customs (BOC) have intercepted the smuggled cigarettes arrived in Misamis Oriental and destroyed it.

The BOC destroyed about P75 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in Manolo Fortich town, Bukidnon. The cigarettes arrived on January 11 at the Mindanao Container Terminal in Tagoloan town, Misamis Oriental and were declared kitchenware.

During the examination, the shipment contained 135,700 reams of such contraband. Smuggled cigarettes worth P7.3M seized in Zamboanga City. The Bureau of Customs-Port of Cagayan de Oro destroyed the contraband cigarettes using a road roller and backhoe at a private facility.

Meanwhile, the BOC-MICP recently captured a large shipment of illegal cigarettes worth over P38 million in Manila International Container Port. A thorough physical examination of the shipment revealed 1,090 master cases of several cigarette brands, including Marvel, Mighty, and Astro. 

A warrant of seizure and detention (WSD) has been issued against the shipment for violating Section 1400 of Republic Act (RA) No. 10863, generally known as the Customs Modernization and Tarrif Act (CMTA), as well as NTA rules and regulations.
