2 Businessmen Selling Counterfeit Cigarettes Arrested in Nueva Ecija

Authorities arrested two (2) businessmen for allegedly selling counterfeit cigarettes in Cabanatuan, province of Nueva Ecija.

Authorities are said to have arrested two merchants in Cabanatuan after they were caught peddling counterfeit cigarettes. The two were apprehended by Brgy. San Leonardo councilors and Gabaldon Police officials who were monitoring Barangay Diversion Road at the time.

The suspects were identified as Joseph Suguitan, 46, of Sarrat, Ilocos Norte, and Allan Balicao, 42, of Barangay Dampulan, Jaen, Nueva Ecija, according to Provincial Director PCol. Jaime Santos. It’s been reported that they’re currently selling bogus Mighty Cigarettes in local stores.

The suspects driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer with the registration plate NBD9966 were found with four boxes of counterfeit cigarettes worth a total of P60,000.00. Aside from that, 15 rims from a fake Two Moon valued at P3,750 were seized from them.

They were detained after failing to produce the necessary documents. They are now facing allegations of breaking RA 8293, or the Intellectual Property Act, and are being held at the station.
