Animal Rights Groups Condemn Killing of Dogs, Cats Allegedly Poisoned in Bacolod

Several dogs and cats were discovered dead in barangay in Bacolod City after allegedly being poisoned which prompt animal rights group to probe.

Several dead dogs and cats were discovered in a Bacolod City barrio. The animals were allegedly poisoned on purpose, according to several residents.

According to a GMA News report, several residents believe the animals were poisoned after searching for food in a garbage can in a community in Barangay Granada. There are more than five dogs and a cat have died already. One of the locals was convinced that the animals had been poisoned.

BACH Project Ph, or Bacolod Animal Chance and Hope, is currently investigating who is responsible for the poisoning, which is considered an act of animal cruelty. The animals’ funeral has already been planned by CARE Philippines.

“We need to educate irresponsible pet owners and also educate non-animal lovers that animal cruelty is not acceptable in any ways,” CARE organizer Ai-Ai Gamboa said.

Authorities are also investigating the situation in order to submit a complaint against those responsible for the animal poisoning. Those who can be proven to have poisoned animals will face an Animal Welfare Act violation complaint.
