Mangyan Kid Received Scholarship After Donating Sweet Potatoes at Community Pantry

A 9-years-old Mangyan kid received a scholarship after he donated a sack of sweet potatoes at a community pantry built in their area.

Netizen John Christopher Lara, a member of the Kilusang Nagmamalasakit sa Lalawigan (KNL), did not expect the community pantry they founded in Occidental Mindoro to be a “life-changing” experience for both those who receive supplies and those who give.

Lara recently told the story of Don Don or Ornelo Sinagmayon, a nine-year-old boy who donated half a sack of sweet potatoes to the community pantry. Don Don is from Mangyan, Occidental Mindoro’s Barangay Pinagturilan.

Don Don instantly donated half a sack of sweet potatoes that his family had planted when he learned that KNL had started a community pantry in their neighborhood. However, the young Mangyan made several donations.

The KNL was so pleased with Don Don’s concern that they personally delivered the good news to their house. According to Lara’s Facebook post, the entire Kilusang Nagmamalasakit sa Lalawigan executive committee has promised him a full scholarship from elementary to college.

Don Don was overjoyed with the scholarship he got, claiming that it would enable him to fulfill his dream of being a teacher and being called as “Sir.” Don Don is said to be the first graduate from their family, just in case.
