DOLE Announces Holiday Pay Rule for April 9, 2021 (Araw ng Kagitingan)

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reminded the employers of holiday pay rule for April 9, 2021 (Day of Valor).

On Friday (April 9, 2021), the Labor Department announced the holiday pay rules for Araw ng Kagitingan, which is considered as a regular holiday in the Philippines. The announced is based to President Duterte’s Proclamation No. 1107.

The proclamation states that the employers are require to give the proper compensation and salary to their employees during the holiday. The employees who will report to work today are entitled to a double pay during the first eight hours of work.

Holiday Pay Rule

Workers who will report overtime are entitled to receive an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate. If the regular holiday falls on the employee’s rest day, he/she is entitled to receive an additional 30 percent of their basic wage of 200 percent.

Employees who will work overtime on a regular holiday during the rest day are entitled to receive an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate during that day.

Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor is a national observance in the Philippines which commemorates the fall of Bataan during World War II. It is also known as Bataan Day or Bataan and Corregidor Day, which falls every April 9.
