Black Saturday: The Significance of the Black Saturday

Why Black Saturday Is Observed by Christians

BLACK SATURDAY – Part of the Holy Week, it is one of the religious events highly-observed by Christians and here is its significance.

Now, Christians across the globe are observing the Holy Week. The Good Friday which was celebrated yesterday marked the end of Lent or the 40-day fasting of the faithful.

During the Good Friday, Christians commemorate the sufferings and death of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Cross. Fasting and abstinence are practiced by people.

Today, April 3, 2021, Black Saturday is observed by Christians. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the Cross in fulfillment of His mission to free the people from the bondage of sins. The Son of God is believed to have “descended into the dead” before He rose again on the third day.

Also called as Holy Saturday, today, Christians commemorate Jesus Christ being laid in the tomb. Based on Time and date, this day is also called Easter Eve, Saturday Before Easter, and Easter Even.

This day is a mixture of sadness and joy for Christians – sadness over the sufferings and death of the Son of God and happiness over the fulfilled mission to save the people from the bondage of sins. Usually, there are Easter vigils held in churches but due to the COVID-19 pandemic now, gatherings in Church are avoided.

Based on the article, in Mexico, Black Saturday is called Judas Day. The people burn images and representations of Judas for betraying Jesus Christ in exchange of 30 pieces of silver. Today is the last day of the Holy Week. It is a time of reflection and waiting for the resurrection of the Son of God.
