PAGASA – Auring Enhances Into Severe Tropical Storm (February 19, 2021)
PAGASA – Weather bureau PAGASA said that Tropical Storm Auring has recently intensified into a severe tropical storm.
The sixth severe weather bulletin from the state bureau said that the weather disturbance has strengthened into a severe tropica storm as it moves slowly over the Philippine sea east of Mindanao.
The website from the bureau said that as of 10 AM, Auring’s center was last spotted at 535 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 115 kilometers per hour. It is moving slowly southwestward.
Caraga, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte will face light to moderate with at times heavy rain showers today until tomorrow afternoon. Caraga will face heavy to intense rains tomorrow afternoon.
Eastern Visayas, Misamis Oriental, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao de Oro, on the other hand, will face moderate to heavy with at times intense rains.
The rest of Visayas, the rest of Northern Mindanao, Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Masbate, Lanao del Sur, Cotabato, and Davao City will face light to moderate with at times heavy rains.
The bureau said that under the said conditions, scattered to widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely to occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps.
Based on the report, the surge of amihan is already bringing strong breeze to near-gale conditions with occasionally higher gusts over Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, as well as in coastal and mountainous areas.
The affected areas also include those currently under TCWS No.1, which are currently the following.

- the eastern portion of Davao de Oro
- Pantukan
- Maragusan
- New Bataan
- Compostela
- Monkayo
- the eastern portion of Agusan del Sur
- Sibagat
- Bayugan City
- Prosperidad
- Talacogon
- San Francisco
- Rosario
- Bunawan
- Santa Josefa
- Trento
- Surigao del Sur
The bureau added that more localities in Caraga and Davao Region may be placed under TCWS No. 1 in the next severe weather bulletin.
