Apprehending Private Vehicles Not Wearing Face Masks Postponed by LTO

Land Transportation Office (LTO) has postponed the apprehension of public and private vehicles not wearing face masks while riding.

According to the LTO, the law that should arrest and fine motorists who will be caught not wearring a face mask inside a private vehicle with their family members will no longer be enforced.

The LTO had earlier postponed the arrest of the designated child car seat law and said it would first focus on the information drive in this regard. At a press conference on Tuesday, LTO chief Edgar Galvante instructed the enforcers not to hunt first.

The move is also based on an order from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), said Assistant Secretary Goddes Libiran. While the Department of Health (DOH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) are set to discuss the said step.

“This matter is set for discussion among members of the IATF. The enforcement details need to be ironed out if they agree to implement exemptions (for riders of a car who come from the same household),” said Libiran.

Meanwhile, the complaint earlier raided the arrest of enforcers on some motorists who did not comply with it and were fined more than P2,000. Galvante explained that the previous arrest was in accordance with the order of the IATF and DOH.

Cabinet Secretary Carlo Nograles also clarified earlier that motorists riding alone or driving private vehicles are no longer required to wear face masks. According to the LTO, they will first verify and clear the protocol for its implementation.
