Lawmakers Suggested DOTr To Push Back Car Seat Law As It Is “Nonsense”
LAWMAKERS ON DOTR CAR SEAT ISSUE – Recently, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) became viral after its statements during an interview with Amy Perez.
With the new car seat law, children below 12 will not be allowed to sit in front. Furthermore, parents can no longer carry there children or have them use regular seat belts starting Tuesday.
During the interview, Perez asked LTO NCR Director Clarence Guinto regarding the newly implemented car seat law. She asked what if a child below 12 is already too big for the seat. As a response, Guinto answered in jest that those parents should simply get a bigger car.

Following this, Bicol Rep. Alfredo Garbin Jr. suggested that the DOTr to suspend several provisions of the new Republic Act No. 11229, or the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act.
Garbin said the act has “no necessity” and is “nonsense”, especially amid a pandemic. According to an article from CDN, he explained:
There is no necessity now to bring children outside of the residence using any motor vehicle. The right time to implement is when the entire country is already in [modified] general community quarantine and when the age restrictions include children
Moreover, he added that the act is nonsense since ordinary seatbelts already provide protection to children. As per the article, he said:
This is nonsense because we have always used seatbelts, and these are enough for my son … The government only implemented this law so those [car seat] companies can earn.
