China Mocks Capitol Riot In the US On Weibo
CHINA MOCKS CAPITOL RIOT – Recently, Trump Supporters stormed the Capitol in a bid to overturn the results of the election.
Today, Congress was supposedly ready to officially declare president-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the November 2020 elections. However, during a riot, hundreds of Trump supporters overwhelmed security and entered the Capitol.
Because of this, the incident went viral across the world. World leaders have even dubbed the event as “an attack on democracy”. Meanwhile on China’s social media platform, Weibo, users mocked the scenes that transpired.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, China’s Communist Youth League described the event as a “beautiful sight”. This was a throwback to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s 2019 Tweet regarding the peaceful Hong Kong demonstrations.
Furthermore, the hashtag “Trump supporters storm US Capitol” got over 230 million views on the platform. Additionally, users drew comparisons between the recent unrest in the Capitol to the global support for Hong Kong’s protests.
Meanwhile, as a response to the incident, former President Barack Obama made a statement and called Trump’s stint as President a “shame to the nation”. Likewise, Joe Biden also called the Trump supporting rioters were undermining democracy.
