Trump Supporters Riot & Storm Capitol As Lawmakers Begin Finalizing Biden Win
TRUMP SUPPORTERS RIOT – Congress met on Thursday (Wednesday in the U.S.) to certify Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential elections.
However, hundreds of supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the capitol demanding an overturn of the decision. Barricades were demolished as maskless Trump supporters with MAGA hats clashed with police.
With their overwhelming numbers, they managed to enter Capitol grounds and even streamed inside the building. As such, law enforcement struggled to maintain peace and order while the riots continue.
Meanwhile, inside the capitol, lawmakers were ready to formally certify Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in the November 2020 elections. But as more people storm the building, the scene quickly resembled that of a coup d’etat.
According to The Guardian, Trump supporters managed to enter the debating chamber, windows and glass doors were smashed. Due to this, security was forced to aim pistols at the rioters point blank to prevent them from going inside.
Luckily, enforcements managed to secure the Capitol and lawmakers were now safe to continue deliberations. Still, the scenes from today’s riot shocked world leaders such as Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.
In a Tweet, he said that the events on the Capitol were a blatant “attack on democracy”. “President Trump and many members of Congress bear significant responsibility for what’s now taking place. The democratic process of electing a president must be respected“, he added.
