Actor-singer Kean Cipriano urged Department of Health (DOH), Secretary Francisco Duque III, to resign from his position amid the new COVID-19 strain.

According to the report, the new coronavirus strain originated in the United Kingdom and it would not have been possible to enter the Philippines without declaring a comprehensive travel ban. The Philippines has already imposed a travel ban on flights from the UK, effective Dec. 24 to 31 but travel to the UK is still possible.

According to Duque, 79 passengers from the UK arrived in the country where one positive for COVID-19, 53 negative while others are awaiting the results of their swab test.

He added that there are no indications yet that the new COVID-19 has entered the Philippines so he said to President Duterte just consider the travel ban if the new variant in that country is already at the level of community transmission.

As a result, several Filipinos, including singer-songwriter-actor Kean Cipriano, slammed him again. Their point is it still necessary to wait for community transmission before the government takes action.

On his Twitter account, Kean called for the health official to resign and just give his position to the more deserving person.  “Sec. Duque is too incompetent to be trusted with such an important responsibility at a very delicate situation.”

“Please resign. Give the position to someone who truly cares for the nation. Filipino lives are on the line. Please step down,” he added.
