Alan Peter Cayetano wanted an investigation into the Senate shooting incident
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano believed that the report that President Bongbong Marcos received regarding the Senate shooting incident was false.
On May 13, 2026, a commotion shocked the people at the Senate, including the members of the media, when shots were heard.
This was prompted by the warrant of arrest that the International Criminal Court (ICC) released against Senator Bato dela Rosa. With this, he sought refuge inside the Senate building.
After the tension, reports stated that Dela Rosa left the Senate building via Sen. Robin Padilla’s vehicle.
Based on the report from Bandera, during a livestream broadcast on May 31, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano said that he has been pushing for an independent investigation, as he believed that the information fed to President Bongbong Marcos was incorrect.
“I do believe the president is being given wrong information,” the Senate President said. Cayetano had this statement after PBBM’s remark that the shooting incident was “fake.”
The President also said he watched “with horror” the things that have been happening in the Senate.
Cayetano stressed that there are pieces of evidence that need to be investigated. “When he mentioned the firings, the NBI and DOJ kept saying that it did not happen inside the Senate. We have evidence, which is why we will be compelled to conduct hearings on the matter,” he said.
The Senate President also stressed that the Senate Committee on Public Order will conduct an investigation, and they will bring in the officials of the National Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, Philippine National Police, and Department of the Interior and Local Government.
However, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano did not name the person who allegedly gave the President the false report.
