Rabiya Mateo Reveals Reason Why Miss Universe Philippines Filmed Different Versions Of Coronation

RABIYA MATEO – Newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo revealed the reason why the organization filmed different versions of the coronation.

Filipina-Indian beauty queen Rabiya Mateo was one of more than 40 candidates in the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 pageant. Before she became a beauty queen, she worked as a physical therapy lecturer.

During MUP preliminary interview, the 23-year-old Ilongga opened up about being from a broken family but she said she did not hold grudges against her father who left her and her mother. On Sunday, Oct. 25, she was named Miss Universe Philippines at the Baguio Country Club in Baguio City.

However, the Miss Universe Philippines pageant did not go without controversy as Taguig’s rep Sandra Lemonon shared cryptic messages on her IG Stories on Sunday. Hours later, MUP’s national director Shamcey Supsup issued a statement.

She said “To bear defeat with dignity, to accept criticism with poise, to receive honors with humility – these are the marks of a true queen.”

In an interview with Kapuso’s morning show “Unang Hirit,” Rabiya Mateo addressed the MUP controversy after photos of the top 5 finalists getting crowned went viral online. She explained why the organization taped different versions of the coronation before they announced the actual winner.

“I think that was a safety protocol din ng Miss Universe Philippines, kasi sa ibang TV series, kunyari reality TV show, ganu’n ‘yung nangyayari para walang may mag-leak,” she said.

According to the report, as the leaked photos fueled speculations on the internet, Rabiya Mateo said they don’t have any idea who won at that time. She said “to be honest po, we were not aware who’s the real winner during that time, and yesterday ko lang din po nalaman. So it was still a surprise para sa ‘ming lahat, kasi I think ilang tao lang din ‘yung nakakaalam, not even the production staff.”
