The struggle is more difficult especially for retrenched employees of the Kapamilya network after denied its franchise applications. This is the reason why other employees and talent of ABS-CBN looked for jobs in other networks.

On the other hand, a recent report from Rappler stated that GMA network terminated several staffers from GMA News TV (GNTV). It was said that the superiors started to notify the employees under them about the layoff on September 8.

Several retrenched employees of ABS-CBN expressed sympathy to their fellow employees in the media industry. Former Kapamilya writer-Producer Nick Villavecer shared this post on Twitter.

Abante Entertainment writer Rose Garcia cited this tweet of Villavecer in her recent article. Garcia said that there were speculation that a “mass layoff” was done. The columnist added that many people were wondering why GMA network had to this when its operation still continues.

Garcia said that they asked people working in the Kapuso network regarding this issue. The employees of GMA denied that there was a “mass layoff” because this only happened in the news department.

It was also pointed out that those who were terminated are contractual and that they were project-basis employees. The writer added that those employees will be hired again if there is a new project.
