Majority of Filipinos Still Back VP Sara Duterte Despite Political Challenges
SARA DUTERTE – A new SWS survey revealed that Vice President Sara Duterte continues to enjoy strong public support, with her satisfaction rating posting a slight increase in the second quarter of 2026.
A majority of Filipinos continue to express satisfaction with the performance of Vice President Sara Duterte, according to the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey for the second quarter of 2026.
Based on a report by the Manila Bulletin, the survey conducted from June 20 to 29 found that 58 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with the vice president’s performance, while 26 percent said they were dissatisfied. This gave Duterte a net satisfaction rating of +31, which SWS classified as “good.”
The result represents a two-point increase from her +29 net satisfaction rating recorded in March 2026.
SWS said the slight improvement was largely driven by stronger ratings in Balance Luzon, along with gains in Mindanao, although there was a small decline in Metro Manila. Her rating in the Visayas remained unchanged.
Duterte continued to enjoy her strongest support in Mindanao, where she posted an impressive +84 net satisfaction rating. This was followed by the Visayas at +36, Balance Luzon at +10, and Metro Manila at +3.
Compared with the previous survey, her rating rose by five points in Balance Luzon and two points in Mindanao, while Metro Manila registered a slight decrease.
The survey also showed that Duterte remained more popular in rural areas, where she maintained a +36 net satisfaction rating. In urban areas, her score improved from +23 to +27.
Among women, her net satisfaction rating increased from +28 in March to +33 in June, moving from the “moderate” to the “good” category. Among men, her rating remained nearly unchanged at +29.
Support also remained strong among younger respondents, with ratings of +41 among those aged 18–24, +43 among 25–34, and +44 among 35–44.
While her rating among those aged 45–54 declined from +25 to +20, it remained in the “moderate” category. Among respondents aged 55 and above, her score improved from -4 to +4, moving from negative to neutral territory.
By educational attainment, Duterte posted notable gains among college graduates, whose net satisfaction rating for her rose from -3 to +12. Increases were also recorded among respondents with lower levels of education, including those who completed elementary school and those with some years of senior high school. However, her rating among junior high school graduates declined from +36 to +29.
