Jenny Barzaga Enters High-Stakes Race to Replace Her Son Kiko Barzaga in Congress
KIKO BARZAGA – The race for Cavite’s 4th District is heating up after Mayor Jenny Barzaga formally filed her candidacy to succeed her son Kiko Barzaga in the House of Representatives.
Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny Barzaga has officially entered the race for the upcoming special election in Cavite’s 4th Legislative District, seeking to fill the congressional seat previously held by her son, former Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga.
On Friday, July 17, Mayor Barzaga formally filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC), making her bid official. She is expected to face four other candidates vying for the same congressional post in the special election.
Sharing the milestone on her official Facebook page, the mayor announced, “Official filing of the Certificate of Candidacy for Member, House of Representatives of Cavite’s 4th Legislative District.”
She also expressed her commitment to continue serving the people of Dasmariñas if allowed to represent the district in Congress.
“With your trust and support, I remain committed to serving every Dasmarineño and continuing the progress of our beloved City of Dasmariñas.”
Meanwhile, former Rep. Kiko Barzaga also took to Facebook to reveal that he would endorse his mother in her congressional bid.
“I will endorse Mayor Jenny Barzaga for the Dasmariñas, Cavite Special Elections!” Kiko wrote.
Although he remains eligible to run in the special election himself, the former lawmaker said he has decided not to seek a return to Congress. Instead, he said he would rather take a break than participate in the race.
“Tatakbo ako sa Special Elections, tapos dadayain lang naman ako! Sayang pera lang, magbabakasyon nalang ako kasama eababs habang binabagsak ng gobyerno ang Pilipinas!” said Barzaga.
Kiko Barzaga’s congressional seat became vacant after he was officially expelled from the House of Representatives on June 2. Members of the House voted on his removal, with the measure passing by a vote of 265 in favor, 14 against, and eight abstentions.
Barzaga had assumed office as representative of Cavite’s 4th District on June 30, 2025, at the start of the 20th Congress. He served for nearly 11 months before being removed from his position.
The upcoming special election will determine who will complete the remainder of the term for Cavite’s 4th District representative. With Mayor Jenny Barzaga now officially in the race and backed by her son, the contest is expected to draw significant attention as voters choose the district’s next representative in the House.
