Sotto Says Ex-NBI Director Dante Gierran A ‘Very Good Choice’ As New PhilHealth Chief
DANTE GIERRAN – Senate President Vicente Sotto III said former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Dante Gierran is a “very good choice” as new Philhealth chief.
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) was recently dragged into corruption issues. A whistleblower exposed alleged massive corruption in the agency.
Lots of people were disappointed about the issue because millions of people rely on the agency when it comes to medical insurance. PhilHealth members remit a certain amount as preparation for unpredicted medical emergencies.
There are allegations that PhilHealth officials purchased overpriced laptops and other anomalous transactions. Currently, the investigation is ongoing.
In a previous article, the roof leak at the agency’s Region 1 office compromised some documents and computers. Upon learning the incident, Sen. Bong Go asked the NBI to protect the important documents of the state firm.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed ex-NBI Director Dante Gierran as the new chief of PhilHealth. He takes over the post of resigned PhilHealth CEO Ricardo Morales. Morales was advised by the chief executive to step down due to his medical condition.
Gierran is a certified public accountant-lawyer. Duterte appointed him as NBI Director after he won the 2016 presidential elections. Based on a report from Inquirer, Senate President Tito Sotto said he is a “very good choice” as the new chief of PhilHealth.
According to the report, Sen. Tito Sotto said Dante Gierran has a “clean record” and has an investigative experience that would clear the agency of irregularities. “Director Gierran is a very good choice as PhilHealth chief. Aside from a clean record, he has investigative skills that can crack the whip in ferreting out anomalies in the agency,” he said.
