New PhilHealth chief Dante Gierran Says He Will Create Own “Management Committee”
DANTE GIERRAN – New PhilHealth chief Dante Gierran said he will create his own “management committee” in the state corporation.
On Monday, August 31, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte appointed former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Dante Gierran as the new chief of Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). The agency was recently dragged into corruption issues.
Gierran takes over the post of resigned PhilHealth President Ricardo Morales. He was advised by Duterte to step down from the position due to his medical condition.
Dante Gierran is a certified public accountant-lawyer. He was the first NBI Director appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte after he won the 2016 presidential elections.
Last February, the 65-year-old official stepped down as NBI director for his mandatory retirement. Prior to his 4-year stint as NBI Director, he was the agency’s regional director for Davao Region.

In a previous article, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Dante Gierran is a “very good choice” as a new PhilHealth chief. He said the official has a “clean record.”
“Director Gierran is a very good choice as PhilHealth chief. Aside from a clean record, he has investigative skills that can crack the whip in ferreting out anomalies in the agency,” he said.
Based on a report from Inquirer, Dante Gierran already has plan for PhilHealth. He said he will create his own “management committee.” However, he did not specify the function of his committee.
“Hindi pa ako nagsimula but one thing for sure I will create my own management committee, for a start,” he said.
According to the report, Gierran said he will also “go with the President” in reorganizing the agency as it currently faces corruption allegations. On Monday, Duterte ordered him to implement a reshuffle at the agency.
