Duterte Vows “No Mercy” To Officials Delaying Telco Permits

Duterte Vows “No Mercy” For Those Delaying Cell Site Permits

DUTERTE VOWS NO MERCY – President Rodrigo Duterte said that he would give no mercy to officials who are delaying the processing of cell sites.

The recent priority in cell sites came as local governments came as Duterte called for urgent action on pending applications. During a meeting of the administration’s task force in Davao City, interior Secretary Eduardo Año reported 1,502 of 1,930 applications by telecommunication firms have been approved in 80 localities.

According to an article from Philstar, the interior Secretary told the President:

Only 428 applications are pending and we are monitoring them to ensure that they won’t be delayed because under the old system, the process lasts for 241 days and involves 19 permits and 86 document requirements

Furthermore, Año emphasized that the government would ensure that the telco applications are acted on by local officials. Along with this, he asserted that the application process would be smoother and faster.

As per the article, Duterte said that local governments shouldn’t make the processing for telcos hard. Because, according to him, Filipinos are facing difficulties as they have a lack of access to telecommunication services.

Now, if you get caught, you would suffer. I tell you… I have never been serious as I can ever be in my life, do not commit a mistake or I would really run after you until you land in jail. The punishment for graft and corruption is harsh

Currently, the Philippines lags in comparison to other southeast Asian countries when it came to telecommunication services. This was mostly attributed to the lack of cell towers in the country and the flooding of cell site users.
