Jules Ledesma Challenged to Face Tough Questions in Public Debate
JULES LEDESMA – A proposed debate involving Congressman Jules Ledesma has sparked attention after critics called for a discussion on the district’s current situation.
Negros Occidental First District Representative Jules Ledesma has been challenged to a public debate by a local civic group amid ongoing controversies involving his recent political actions and the issues confronting his district.
The challenge was issued by Andoni Valencia, chairman of the Juan Calatrava Movement and convenor of the Save the Philippines RAGE Coalition. According to Valencia, the proposed discussion would focus on the actual condition of the First District of Negros Occidental and the concerns affecting its residents.

Valencia suggested holding the debate in Bacolod City, which he described as a neutral venue where both parties could freely present their positions and discuss matters affecting the district. He emphasized that the forum would provide an opportunity to address public concerns and shed light on issues that have remained unresolved.
The challenge comes after the Juan Calatrava Movement and the Save the Philippines RAGE Coalition released an open letter directed at Congressman Ledesma. The groups reacted to an earlier statement indicating that Senator Alan Peter Cayetano could be declared persona non grata in the First District of Negros Occidental.
Both organizations criticized what they described as Ledesma’s “hypocritical act,” arguing that efforts should instead be directed toward addressing the pressing problems faced by constituents. The groups maintained that several long-standing concerns continue to affect communities within the district.
Among the issues cited were poverty, unemployment, inadequate preventive healthcare services, and the alleged mistreatment of farmers. The groups also pointed to what they referred to as failed development projects and questioned whether sufficient attention has been given to improving the welfare of residents.

Valencia said that the proposed debate would allow the public to hear directly from those involved and better understand the realities on the ground. He added that discussing the district’s challenges in an open forum could encourage greater accountability and transparency among public officials.
As of this writing, there has been no public response from Congressman Ledesma regarding the challenge. It also remains unclear whether he will accept the invitation to participate in the proposed debate in Bacolod City.
The development has drawn attention from various sectors, with many awaiting Ledesma’s reaction and the possibility of a public exchange on the issues confronting the First District.
