Senate Mulling Over Healthcare Workers’ Call for 2-Week Stricter Quarantine Measures

SENATE – The upper chamber is eyeing a two-week lockdown in support for the call of the healthcare workers amid the increasing COVID-19 cases.

The COVID-19 cases in the Philippines had its highest increases lately. For three (3) days straight now, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded thousands of coronavirus cases daily.

As of this writing, the total COVID-19 cases recorded in the country is at 103,185. Out of the said number, the health department listed 2,059 deaths and 65,557 recoveries.

Currently, the community quarantine measures are still up in the Philippines. In fact, the healthcare workers called for stricter measures to give the medical industry a 2-week “timeout”.

Several medical groups in the different areas in the Philippines called for an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) for two (2) weeks. Many hospitals including the big ones in Metro Manila announced that they are already in a full capacity.

Many hospital staff also contracted the COVID-19 disease. Thus, a part of the healthcare workers is under quarantine affecting the manpower in the field.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in support of the call of the healthcare workers, the Senate is eyeing a two-week lockdown according to a source. According to an unidentified official, the proposal is also out of the concern of the upper chamber for the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff.

According to the report, several senators have already expressed their support to the call of the healthcare workers amid the COVID-19 case surge. In case a 2-week lockdown will be approved in the Senate, the scheduled hearings will be reset.

Previously, Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri who is a COVID-19 survivor expressed his concern to the doctors and nurses in hospitals who are now under full capacity for coronavirus cases. Sen. Nancy Binay also appealed to Malacañang to support the healthcare workers who are calling for help now.
