Celebrities React to Senator Cynthia Villar Statement on Medical Workers’ Call for ECQ
CYNTHIA VILLAR – Senator Cynthia Villar drew flak over her statement regarding the medical workers’ call for ‘enhanced community quarantine’ (ECQ) for Metro Manila following the surge of COVID-19 cases.
The frontliners told President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III, and COVID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. that the nation’s healthcare system is already at its maximum capacity.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN News, Senator Cynthia Villar on Saturday said Metro Manila could not be placed back to ECQ. She was firm on her stand that the Philippines should remain under GCQ to help the economy recover from the health crisis.
“Hindi natin pwedeng isara ang ekonomiya, kailangan pag-igihin ng (Department of Health) at iba pang agency ang kanilang hakbang…”
“Kapag lockdown kasi magsa-suffer ang ekonomiya. I guess we have to live with COVID 19,” she added.
Cynthia Villar urged COVID-19 frontliners to step up in a time of crisis. She said “Hindi na siguro (babalik sa ECQ), pagbutihin nila trabaho nila. Hindi pwedeng isara ang ekonomiya kasi kung ‘di naman mamamatay sa COVID, mamamatay naman sa gutom ang tao.”
Several celebrities reacted to Sen. Cynthia Villa’s statement on medical workers. Among the stars who fearlessly criticized the politician’s response to the appeal of the medical front liners are Jennylyn Mercado, Jake Cuenca, Enchong Dee, Jerald Napoles, and Jake Ejercito.
