Cynthia Villar has this recent statement, netizens slam the Senator

Netizens slam Senator Cynthia Villar for questioning the cash aid for those who belong in the “middle class”.

Amid the enhanced community quarantine, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) gave cash assistance to the poor through the Social Amelioration Program. Although there were some controversies and reported anomalies, many Pinoys have become beneficiaries of the said program.

However, there were also groups who expressed that those in the “middle class” should also benefit from the SAP, especially that they are also paying their taxes and they are also affected by the crisis.

In line with this, last month, President Rodrigo Duterte said that the appeal to give cash assistance to the middle class is valid. Based on the report from the Philippine News Agency, PHP27 billion to PHP32 billion must be allotted to as cash aid for those in the middle class.

However, in a recent of Senator Cynthia Villar, she questioned the DSWD for SAP intended for the middle class. Based on the Twitter post of digital journalist Kat Domingo, here is the statement of the lawmaker.

Sen. Cynthia Villar asks DSWD: Bakit bibigyan [ng aid] yung middle [class] e may trabaho sila? Kahit lockdown sumusuweldo sila sa gobyerno.. Kung employed ng private, susuweldo din sila kaya nahihirapan yung mga companies bec they have to pay salaries even if there is no business
