Japan To Name COVID-Hit Nightlife Establishments

COVID-HIT NIGHTLIFE ESTABLISHMENTS – The minister-in-charge of the coronavirus response in Japan is set to disclose the names of nightlife establishment should a COVID-19 infection is confirmed there.

According to ABS-CBN, Yasutoshi Nishimura, economic revitalization minister said in a meeting with the mayors of six major cities that towns should implement more stringent measures against nightlife businesses.

This was due to the country having a resurgence in new cases on the back of increasing infections at hostess bars and host clubs.

In hostess bars, women entertain male customers over drinks and have a flirtatious conversation with them. The same goes for the male counterparts.

New cases have reached 30,000 over the weekend nationwide, which include 700 cases from Diamond Princess cruise ship, which is quarantined in Yokohama in February.

Tokyo City, which is currently the hardest-hit area in the country, reported that there are currently 266 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. This is higher compared to 131 cases recorded on Monday.

Nishimura, who is in a meeting with the mayors of Fukuoka, Kobe, Kyoto, Nagoya, Sapporo and Yokohama, said that they will discuss on how to strengthen countermeasures.

Based on the report, the minister said that eating and drinking establishments should observe with guidelines that were set by the nightlife industry in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

If customers or staff members who fail to follow guidelines and are confimed to br infected, business should be named in order for customers who visited the said establishments to know about the infections.
