Amidst this pandemic, it is heartwarming to hear stories that inspire and give hope. One that caught the attention of many is our UP High School in Iloilo incoming grade 10 student Louie Animas who sold cashew nuts in preparation for remote and blended learning come opening of classes. Here is Louie’s narrative on how he was able to sell and save up for a laptop computer and printer.

“CashewParan ng Magandang Kinabukasan”

“I caught myself staring at the sky thinking how to overcome the scary and devastating causes of this pandemic. I was a bit more petrified when I heard in the news that the upcoming school year will be online and will be on remote learning. I don’t have the gadgets to use for this kind of arrangement as we were not financially stable. However, I did not consider it as a problem but rather a challenge.

I have to be optimistic and I have to think of something that can make me productive and at the same time, I can help my parents. Hence, i decided to do online selling which is popular now. I came up with selling Roasted Cashew Nuts with two goals in mind. First, is for my fundraising project to buy the tools for my upcoming online class, and second, is to help my buyers boost their immune system as one way of fighting COVID-19.

My selling journey was not easy, but then again, I challenged myself to be more persistent and eager in order to achieve my goal. Surprisingly, 5, 18, 20 kilos turned into a massive 75 kilos of cashew nuts sold.

My special thanks to ABS-CBN TV Patrol – Panay and Panay Sikat for featuring my inspiring story which pave the way to introduce my product not only to Ilonggos but to other people in the different countries as well.

The generosity and full support of my immediate family, friends, coaches, anonymous donors, ASPROFIL Spain-Philippines and the UPV community gave me strength to sustain my project along the way which made it a sweet success. Thank you!

A wise and generous man said, ‘God helps those people who help themselves.’ “
