Harry Roque Says PH Gov’t Ready To Sell Assets To Purchase Vaccine Against COVID-19 Once Available
PH GOV’T – The Philippine government is ready to sell some of its assets to purchase COVID-19 vaccines once it becomes available in the market.
Last April, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said the country would need to sell assets or borrow to fund the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) response. In a report, Palace also said it was considering selling some of Emelda Marcos’ gems to help raise funds.
On Duterte’s previous press briefing, he discussed the possibility of selling some of the properties of the government. “What is the end game? ’Pag maubos talaga ang pera, ipagbili ko lahat ng [properties] ng gobyerno. Iyang Cultural Center [of the Philippines], PICC, yung lupa diyan,” he said.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte earlier announced a P10 million reward to any Pinoy who can produce a vaccine against COVID-19. He said that he would lift all quarantine measures once a coronavirus vaccine is developed.

Based on a report from Inquirer, Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said the Philippine government is ready to sell some of its assets to buy COVID-19 vaccines once it becomes available in the market. “Basta po meron nang gamot diyan sa COVID-19, basta may bakuna, ibebenta natin lahat ng ari-arian ng ating gobyerno para makabili po tayo para sa ating mga kababayan,” he said in a televised briefing on Friday, July 3.
“Iyan po ang paninindigan ni Presidente- buhay muna bago ari-arian,” he added.

According to the report, Harry Roque released the statement after COVID-19 vaccines tested by US Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and BioNTech of Germany reportedly showed positive preliminary results. The data showed that their vaccine prepares the body to fight the deadly virus and triggered “immune system response.”
