DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte defended Health Secretary Francisco Duque III against criticisms on handling COVID-19 pandemic.

The government agencies that is spearheading the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic is the Department of Health. It is headed by DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III.

This coronavirus disease was first recorded in China last December 2019. Beginning January 2020, several other nations recorded their first cases of the disease.

Globally, more than 10.5 million people were infected by COVID-19. Around 5.7 million patients have recovered while more than 500,000 died of the disease.

The Philippines is one of the countries dealing against the COVID-19 pandemic now. DOH has recorded 37,514 cases in the country with 1,266 deaths and 10,233 recoveries.

Undeniably, amid the COVID-19 pandemic now, many people are unsatisfied with the response of DOH. Many are criticizing how Health Sec. Francisco Duque III is handling the matter. To this, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte reacted.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, in his latest national address on COVID-19 pandemic, Pres. Duterte defended DOH Secretary Duque. According to him, he would have not appointed him if he was incompetent.

“Nakita ko to si Secretary Duque in the many meeting we had. Nakita ko siyang nagtatrabaho. Nagtatrabaho ‘yung tao,” the President said based on the report.

Furthermore, he added that no country was prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic citing that it happens once in a century. He stressed that the happenings just after two (2) days since the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a warning are unexpected.

Currently, PH is still on a fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid it, investigations on the DOH handling are also being pushed.
