Netizens bashed Dawn Chang due to this
Kapamilya actress Dawn Chang showed her support for Miss International Queen 2012 Kevin Balot’s controversial statement and she got bashed because of this.
The transgender beauty queen went viral on Twitter on June 24 due to her alleged statement that traditional pageant should be exclusive only for natural women. Although she belong in the LGBTQ community and an advocate of it, she received criticisms for what she stated.
“We transwomen always ask for equality… And I believe us transgender women joining sa mga Miss Universe is not equality anymore eh.” she said. She added that transwomen have their own beauty pageant. Several netizens agreed to what she said including Dawn Chang.
She said that people can disagree with Kevin but no one can invalidate what she said.
However, this did not sit well to several netizens also. Because of this, the Kapamilya actress received bashing. Some called Dawn “transphobic” due to her support for Kevin.
There were also netizens who shared a clip of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s Bottom Line interview with Boy Abunda. It was the portion the portion that Catriona was asked to react the inclusion of Miss Spain Angela Ponce, who is a transgender woman, in the Miss Universe pageant.
Understanding the predicament of transwomen, as she also has transwomen friends, Catriona said that Angela is the voice of the transgender community in order for their needs to be heard.
Twitter user @prgrnjhn pointed out that this is the difference between Kevin Balot, Dawn Chang, and Catriona Gray.
