Gabriel Go Pushes a Simple Fix That Could Transform Daily Commuting
GABRIEL GO – Improving public transportation is not just about adding more vehicles and railway lines, according to MMDA Special Operations Group-Strike Force chief Gabriel Go.
Gabriel Go has outlined what he believes is a practical solution to improving the public transportation system in the Philippines, should he decide to enter politics in the future.
Go currently serves as the chief of the Special Operations Group-Strike Force (SOG-SF) of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). During the monthly press forum organized by the Manila City Hall Reporters’ Association (MACHRA) on Tuesday, June 9, he shared his views on the current state of public transportation and the improvements needed to make commuting more convenient for Filipinos.
According to Go, while the country has already invested in major transportation infrastructure such as train systems and busways, there remains a critical gap that must be addressed.
“Lagi nating sinasabi, improve public transportation,” Go’s introduction. “Ang tanong, paano natin gagawin? May LRT tayo, may bagong LRT stations, may bagong MRT stations, may rapid busway tayo. Ano pa bang kulang? Alam n’yo, kulang? Facilities.”
He emphasized that transportation improvements should not focus solely on vehicles and rail systems but also on the comfort and convenience of commuters while waiting for rides.
“Imagine mo, ikaw, maghihintay ka ng bus, saan ka tatayo? Sa initan? Saan ka tatayo kapag umuulan? Nakapayong ka, naghihintay ka,” he added.
As a solution, Go proposed the development of integrated terminals that would bring together different modes of transportation in one location. He explained that such terminals could be organized by levels to accommodate various transport services.
“For example, integrated terminals. Unang level, electric jeep. Modernized. Second level, TNVS. Third level, sabihin na natin, mga van. UV Express,” the SOG-SF chief said.
Beyond transportation access, Go said these terminals should also provide amenities that enhance the commuting experience.
He added, “Imagine n’yo, pupunta kayo bilang commuters, pagpasok n’yo sa integrated terminal, mayro’ng tindahan. Puwedeng mamili. Puwede kayong magpahinga [at] may CR na maayos. […] We need facilities that serve the people.”
Aside from leading the MMDA’s SOG-SF, Go is also widely recognized on social media for posting videos related to traffic enforcement operations and apprehensions of motorists violating traffic laws.
