Bong Go Says VP Leni Robredo Might Clash W/ IATF Members
BONG GO – Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said Vice President Leni Robredo might not work well with Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
Last week, Vice President Leni Robredo ask the government to act swiftly to help the locally stranded individuals in Metro Manila amid the “general community quarantine.” She also cited the case of Michelle Silvertino, the woman who died after being stranded for 5 days.
On Wednesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque advised Robredo to offer solutions rather than criticizing the government. “I just wish the Vice President could actually offer solutions,” he said.
Harry Roque’s remarks against Leni Robredo elicited a reaction from former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. He asked if he was just turning blind eye to the vice president’s initiative amid the health crisis.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s staunchest critic also dared the government to appoint Robredo as the head of IATF. He believes that the country’s COVID-19 response would be more effective is she’s the one who leads the agency.
On Saturday, June 20, Senator Bong Go was asked about his reaction to Trillanes’ dare. Based on a report from Inquirer, Go said VP Leni Robredo might clash with the members of IATF if the government let her lead the COVID-19 task force.
He also feared that her fate as co-chair of ICAD could happen again. It can be remembered that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte fired Leni from the post due to a lack of trust.
“Alam naman nating it (IATF) is composed of people and secretaries under the President so mahirap naman po mangyari yung nakaraang yung sa (anti-) drug (committee), yung inappoint po siya, kung di sila magkasundo. Sayang naman yung kanilang panahon…”
“Mahirap namang i-mix mo kung iba ang kanilang direksyon. Hindi makakatulong sa Pilipino,” he added.
According to the report, Bong Go said that it is better for Leni Robredo to help the citizens who are greatly affected by the COVID-19 crisis. He also criticized Antonio Trillanes IV saying the government will not follow his dare.
“Hindi po uto-uto ang Malacañang” he said.
