Father & Son Arrested For Sharing Motorcycle On Their Way To Work
FATHER & SON – A father and son were arrested for back riding on a motorcycle their way to work.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) previously announced that they are banning back rides on motorcycles to halt the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). It is part of the agency’s guidelines for social distancing policy.
The government agency also limits the number of passengers in public jeepneys, taxis, and UV Express vans. They urged the people to maintain six (6) feet distance in public.
On Thursday, June 18, a father and son were caught back riding on a motorcycle in Villasis, Pangasinan while on their way to the construction site. Based on a report from Rappler, the authorities arrested Pedro Munez and his son Paulo for violating the quarantine rules.
Some local governments have appealed to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) regarding the policy because the rule also applied to those who live in the same house.

According to the report, Pedro Munez said they have no choice but to ride their motorcycle because is no other public transportation available. He said he and his son have to get to work to put food on their table.
“Wala kaming masakyan papasok kaya nag-angkas kami. Wala na kaming pambili ng pagkain,” Pedro said.
Villasis police chief Major Fernando Fernande said the town strictly prohibits sharing rides in motorcycle and there is an ordinance in which quarantine violators will be detained for 3 hours and another 3 hours to do community service. Based on the report, Pedro Munez and his son were later released.
