Customs Seizes P2.7 Million Worth of Dollar Bills Inserted in Old Magazine

Bureau of Customs (BOC) seizes US dollar bills hidden in old magazines with an estimated value of $ 54,215 cash or P2.7 million worth.

The Port of Clark-Bureau of Customs has recovered $ 54,215 in cash or P2.7 million worth in Philippine peso, that has been inserted in the pages of old magazines from Hong Kong.

According to the report of GMA News, it said on the shipment information that the package contained a Chinese cookbook but the package contained old magazines when it opened. Some pages of magazines cover $5 to $100.

There are also dollars in the envelope that are also stuck in the magazine. BOC said the that all the packages coming to their office were subjected to x-ray inspection so the hidden dollars were immediately spotted.

“Kung ma-forfeit po, it will be part of the revenue ng government,” said BOC official.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the alleged dollar smuggling, based on the report. The Bureau of Customs has not yet to determine who is the sender and consignee behind the P2.7 million worth of US dollar bills hidden in various magazines.

As of now, District Collector Ruby Alameda issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) for violating the Customers Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
