Cebu City Back Under ECQ Due To COVID-19 Cases

Cebu City Placed Under ECQ Again Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

CEBU CITY – The city is back under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the increasing COVID-19 cases.

The fight against COVID-19 in the Philippines is not over. That is what President Rodrigo Roa Duterte stressed in his latest address to the nation regarding the pandemic.

Previously, the entire Luzon and most provinces in Visayas and Mindanao were under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Classes were suspended, churches were not allowed to hold religious services, public transportation was suspended, and the people are advised to stay at home.

Starting May 16, the community quarantine in several areas were downgraded to a General Community Quarantine (GCQ). Beginning June 1, only the high risk areas were under a GCQ while most parts of the country were under a Modified GCQ.

Recently, the community quarantine measures expired. Pres. Duterte held a national address for the statuses in the different areas in the country.

Based on a report on Inquirer, due to the increasing cases of COVID-19, Cebu City will be placed again under an ECQ. According to Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III, the said recommendation was approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

The Health Secretary cited the “increasing number of cases and widespread community transmission” in most barangays in the city. According to the report, Talisay City will be under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) until June 30.

Currently, there is a total of 26,420 cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines. The health department recorded 1,098 deaths and 6,252 recoveries.
