Maria Ressa Guilty Verdict: ABS-CBN Releases Official Statement

Here’s ABS-CBN statement over Maria Ressa guilty of cyber libel.

MARIA RESSA GUILTY – The biggest media company in the Philippines, ABS-CBN, released statement over cyber libel guilty verdict for Maria Ressa.

Rappler Chief Executive Officer Maria Ressa was charged guilty over the cyber libel complaint from wealthy businessman Wilfredo Keng. However, aside from that, Rappler is also facing other charges.

As such, the media company violated the 1987 Constitution being owned by the Americans, Rappler Holdings Corp.’s failed to declare correct amount of annual income tax return and value-added tax (VAT) violating Section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code, Ressa facing one count of tax evasion, and among others.

Meanwhile, with the guilty verdict for Ressa, the biggest media network in the country released their statement. Just last month, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered the network’s shut down.

In the statement of the network, it was written:

“ABS-CBN News is one with our fellow journalists in upholding the freedom of the press and the freedom of speech in the country.
We will remain steadfast in bringing news and information to the public to the public and proving a voice to ordinary Filipinos.”

Businessman Wilfredo “Willy” Dy Keng is the president of companies like Century Peak Metals Holdings Corp (CPM), Colony Investors Inc, Good Earth Plaza, U-Need Shopping Center, Cariedo Plaza, Balikbayan Shopping Mall, Century Peak Corp.

He filed the charges which stemmed from a 2012 article which stated his alleged involvement to several illegal activities and “murder” case.
