Marcoleta asked Gabby Lopez to recite the ‘Panatang Makabayan’, what’s your reaction about this?
GABBY LOPEZ – ABS-CBN chairman emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III being bullied by Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta during hearing?
ABS-CBN franchise renewal was caught under fire to get another 25-year legislative franchise. This is after all the issues thrown against the network coming from their taxes down to the citizenship of their chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III.
During the recent Congressional hearing on ABS-CBN franchise issue, on Monday, June 8, Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta asked Lopez to recite “Panatang Makabayan” or the Patriotic Oath of the Philippines. With this, people on social media got a bit confused if being called a true Filipino now is determined by their ability to recite this.
Is this a desperation from Marcoleta to disprove Lopez being a Filipino? Lopez is a dual citizen – Filipino because his parents are and American because he was born in the United States. Through Zoom app, Lopez was able to appear in the hearing and after Marcoleta asked him to do that, he could just scratch his head and eventually said, “Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas.”
Some netizens were amused and took social media to express their witty comments about what Marcoleta has asked Lopez to do and some just got plainly annoyed. There are a lot more important issues to talk about accordingly regarding the issues of the network aside from reciting it.
And here’s how celebrities have reacted to this:
Antonette Jadaone: What a bully, Marcoleta!
Frankie Pangilinan: I am screaming how is this real
Ria Atayde: Game show po ba ito?
Kiana Valenciano: Make it make sense
