ABS-CBN – The Kapamilya network released a statement on the citizenship of chairman emeritus Gabby Lopez III.

Currently, the ABS-CBN network is on a fight for the renewal of its franchise. It was recently when a Cease and Desist Order was released against the network.

The Kapamilya network immediately suspended its broadcasting. As the network which has been on the television for decades went off-air, a lot of people were saddened.

The order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) undeniably came as a surprise to the public. Previously, some authorities expressed that the network can continue operating while the renewal of its franchise has yet to be discussed.

Recently, ABS-CBN released a statement related to the issues surrounding the renewal of its franchise. The Kapamilya network spoke regarding the citizenship of its chairman emeritus, Mr. Gabby Lopez III.

Based on an article, the Kapamilya network stated that Mr. Gabby Lopez III was born in 1952 to Eugenio and Conchita Lopez, both Filipinos. The network cited the 1935 Constitution and stressed that there is no need for Lopez to “acquire Filipino citizenship because he never lost it or renounced it”.

According to the article, Lopez was born in the United States which also makes him an American citizen. His birth came before the dual citizenship law was enacted in the Philippines.

The ABS-CBN also stated that they have already answered the issues surrounding the citizenship of its chairman emeritus, Gabby Lopez III, at the Senate hearing. Also, the network said that they have complied with the requirements set by the Senate.
