Alan Peter Cayetano says that a hearing does not guarantee renewal of ABS-CBN network amid its pending case.
ALAN PETER CAYETANO – Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano speaks about the hearing and pending case of ABS-CBN franchise renewal.
Based on a previous report, the House wrote House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano to address the issues and tackle details regarding the franchise renewal of the biggest television network in the country. After 65 years, it closed down last May 5, 2020, in compliance to the cease and desist order due to expiration of their franchise from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
Now, in a Facebook post, the House Speaker expressed that although a hearing will be conducted, this does not guarantee that the network will return broadcasting right away or automatically. This is because there are a lot more other concerns which need to be resolved.
Accordingly, what the hearing can only guarantee is for the network to present their case and the same goes to the opposition. The concerns raise won’t be neglected and assured that the Congress will give “all the time and attention” that the matter required.
He also stressed that without the proper hearings, doubts and uncertainties will be left hanging. He added, “Ultimately, it is through a fair, impartial, comprehensive, and thorough presentation and appreciation of the evidence that we can clear the air.”
